Pneumatic Control Valves as Hydraulic Valves

Is it possible to use pneumatic valves such as pneumatic solenoid valves in hydraulic systems? I have check and they seem to have same function.

Re: Pneumatic Control Valves as Hydraulic Valves

Sir Jimmy, I don't think it would be wise if you were to use the pneumatic valves in your hydraulic system. The pneumatic valves though similar with hydraulic are not built for high pressure operation generated by the hydraulic. Pneumatic valves are built for pressure much lower than its counterpart. It would result to cracks or worse explosion of valves. Secondly, the seals used in the pneumatic systems are not designed for contact with hydraulic fluids. It would easily corrode and thus be the source of leaks.

Wish this helps...

thanks again.

It would surely rip the valves open if you would use pneumatic valves as hydraulic valves. Seen that in action a few years ago when somebody tried to do some experiments in my previous company. It sure is very dangerous.

Yes, as long as you are using the same working pressure and functions. But for sure it will not last long. The valves were designed specifically for its working medium, gas or liquid. This is because they differ a lot in their properties. So difinitely, it will damage the valve for a short period (not very economical).
Therefore, it is possible but practically speaking do not use that alternative of swapping pneumatic valves for hydraulics or vice versa, it will cost you your job.
